Apply Now: The Bradburd Scholarship for Excellence

December 3, 2007 (updated February 20, 2008)

Meadville Lombard Theological School announces a second merit-based scholarship for a full program of residential study at Meadville Lombard in Chicago. The Arnold and Julia Bradburd Endowed Scholarship Fund for Excellence is open to all residential Master of Divinity applicants who seek admission in Autumn, 2008. It will provide tuition and registration fees for a full course of study and, as long as academic standards are maintained, will be renewed on an annual basis.

Application deadline:  April 15, 2008

Application Requirements

Applicants are requested to submit:

  • Three letters of reference (academic, personal, and ministerial);

Update: The letters of reference for the Bradburd Scholarship application must be different than the letters of reference used for the admissions application process.

You may ask two of the three scholarship recommenders to write separate letters of recommendation for both the admissions and the scholarship applications. However, one of the recommenders for the Bradburd Scholarship is required to be used solely for the scholarship application process.

Your recommenders should write as to why they believe you should be the recipient of the Bradburd Scholarship. It is encouraged that your scholarship recommenders read your scholarship essay before writing your letter of recommendation so that they may reference it within their letter of recommendation.

  • Resume or curriculum vitae, in which academic achievements community involvements and religious service are highlighted;
  • Three to five page written response to one of the two following questions:

    • What do you take to be one of the greatest moral concerns of our time, and what do you think should be the character and tasks of liberal religious public ministry in response?
    • How do you understand the challenges and possibilities of liberal religious institutions and liberal theological leadership in an increasingly interreligious world?
