Marjorie Girth
Professor
Marjorie Girth teaches a sequence of commercial law courses and the
required course in professional responsibility at Georgia State
University's College of Law in Atlanta. Marjorie’s scholarship has
emphasized the systemic effects of implementing the nation’s bankruptcy
laws for consumer debtors. Teaching legal ethics has also provided
opportunities for studying the systemic effects of rules that have
developed in the effort to establish appropriate ethical norms for
American lawyers' behavior. Prof. Girth has written books and
professional articles in both fields. She has also engaged in extensive
professional service, including repeated appointments as a member of
law school accreditation site teams on behalf of the Association of
American Law Schools and the American Bar Association.
Earlier in her academic career,
Marjorie was a member of the law faculty of the State University of New
York at Buffalo. During that time, she served as a Trustee of the
Buffalo Unitarian-Universalist Church. From 1999-2003 she was a Trustee
of the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Atlanta. Marjorie also
was a member of the UUA Mid South District’s Long-Range Planning
Committee from 2002 – 04. In 2007 she served as a member of the
Atlanta congregation’s Board Task Force on Ministerial Roles. |
