Justin Osterman, DMin '99
Rev.
Dr. Justin S. Osterman currently serves the Main Line Unitarian Church
in Devon, Pennsylvania. Justin grew up in a Unitarian Universalist
family with parents who were teachers for the U.S. Department of
Defense School System in Europe. After graduating high school in West
Germany, he attended St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg,
NC, and, in 1984, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with an
emphasis in creative writing. Following college, Justin served in the
United States Army for four years as a non-commissioned officer, a
paratrooper, and an Arabic linguist with Military Intelligence. He
returned to civilian life and worked in the insurance industry for a
couple years, but found the work unfulfilling. His volunteer service in
a comprehensive ministry program to the homeless and his involvement in
the local Unitarian Universalist congregation helped crystallize his
call to ministry.
He
has served churches in Hobart, IN and New London, CT, before
serving an eight-year ministry at the Central Unitarian Church of
Paramus, NJ.
In
August 2005, he became the only non-military clergyperson to meet and
speak with prisoners at the US military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
