Meadville Lombard operates on the quarter system. A regular academic year is comprised of three 10-week quarters: fall, winter and spring. Intensive courses are offered in January as part of the winter quarter, during the spring quarter, and in the summer quarter.
Typically, one course equals one unit of credit, unless noted otherwise. A full course of study in the residential format equals to nine (9) academic courses, or nine units of credit, during the regular academic year. A full course of study in the modified residency format equals to three (3) January intensives, or three units of credit, during the winter quarter.
Tuition and fees vary depending on the residential format a student is enrolled in; details for these differences are outlined below and on the Doctor of Ministry tuition and fees page. Please contact the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid for additional information.

$1350.00 per unit of credit (courses that are less than one full unit will be prorated). This rate will also be charged for cross-registered courses taken at the University of Chicago and at Association of Chicago Theological Schools member schools.
Tuition will increase to $1400.00 per unit of credit in the Fall of 2008.

In addition to supplementing required January intensive courses with Meadville Lombard intensive courses offered in the spring and the summer and via online courses, students in the modified residency format may have to supplement with courses offered at a local seminary. Tuition and fees are set by those schools and students will need to abide by their fee schedules.

Students at Large
Students taking Meadville Lombard courses who have not matriculated into a degree program offered at Meadville Lombard are considered "students at large." These would be students considering application to a Meadville program but who would like to try a class at first, would be people not interested in obtaining a degree at all but who are interested in the content, or students from another seminary who will be seeking credit toward their degrees in another program. These students still need to register as students at large and the tuition they pay depends upon whether they are taking the course for credit or are auditing it. Students at large can expect the following:
