Covenanting Together for Institutional Service

We make our covenant with the mutual understanding that institutional service requires collaboration, accountability, and mutual support. As Meadville Lombard Theological School makes the transition to new presidential leadership, we name our hope for the future of a school that holds high the values of Unitarian Universalism, even as it moves forward our faith tradition.  

In leading and serving this institution, we know that the symbolic elements of leadership transition are important markers of institutional life. Keeping with this understanding, on the occasion that celebrates the calling of a new president, we deem it important to offer a symbol of the school’s transition. During the Inauguration Ceremony of Dr. ­Elías Ortega as the school’s 15th president, the 14th president Rev. Dr. Lee Barker will pass to him the Meadville Lombard medallion which will serve to acknowledge Dr. Barker’s transformative leadership and, more importantly, to signal the beginning of a new chapter in the life of the school as it is led by Dr. Ortega. We make our decision to mark this moment together because of our shared commitment to the mission and future of Meadville Lombard.
